 Donuts




Ingredients 
  • ½ cup milk (warm) 
  • 1 tsp sugar 
  • 1 tsp dry yeast 
  • 2 cups maida / plain flour / all-purpose flour / refined flour 
  • ¼ tsp baking powder 
  • 2 tbsp butter (room temperature) 
  • pinch of salt 
  • ½ cup water (or as required) 
  • oil to grease & deep fry 
For glaze: 
  • 1 cup dark chocolate
  • 1 cup white chocolate 
  • Milk powder 50 gms
  • Powdered Sugar 100 gms 
Process
  • Firstly, in a large mixing bowl take ½ cup warm milk or water.
  • To that add 1 tsp of sugar. sugar helps to activate the yeast.
  • Also, add 1 tsp of dry yeast and give a quick mix.
  • Allow it to rest for 5 minutes, or till the yeast activates and turns frothy
  • Now add 2 cups of maida, ¼ tsp baking powder, 2 tbsp butter, and a pinch of salt.
  • Combine and crumble well.
  • Add half cup warm water or as required and knead 5 minutes 
  • Knead till the dough is soft, smooth, and elastic and also bounces back when pressed. 
  • If not, knead another 5 minutes.
  • Tuck the dough and grease with oil cover the bowl tightly with cling wrap or plastic wrap and allow to rest and rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours
  • The dough has raised and doubled in size indicating well fermented 
  • Punch the dough with a fist to release down the air and knead slightly
  • Pinch a large ball-sized dough and dust with maida.
  • Roll the dough slightly thick using a rolling pin.
  • With the help of a doughnut cutter or glass cut round shape, make a hole in the center use a bottle cap.
  • Deep fry in medium hot oil or bake in preheated oven at 180-degree celsius for 15 minutes.
  • Fry till the donuts turn golden brown. 
  • Drain off over kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.
Glazing process:
  • Melt the dark chocolate and the white chocolate in a double boiler.
  • After melting dip the doughnut in either one of the chocolates (Dark/White) and keep it for rest glaze side up.
  •  Now use the other chocolate (Dark/white) and with a spoon do a zig-zag design on the top of the doughnut. 
  • You can do any design as per your requirement.
  • If the chocolates start to get harden then u can melt them again in the double boiler and use them to glaze the doughnuts.
  • You can even add any toppings with the chocolate glaze (Sprinklers, gems, M&Ms, sweetened Shredded Coconut, etc.)
  • For making a normal Sugar glazed doughnut, in a mixing bowl add 50gms of milk powder and 100gms of powdered sugar add 3 drops of vanilla essence and a little bit of water whisk it till it is in thick liquid consistency.
  • Use a strainer and strain out the sugar glaze.
  • After straining keep the doughnuts in a resting tray and pour the sugar glaze on top of it covering all the sides of the doughnut.
  • Keep it resting for 10 minutes until all the extra glaze falls out.
  • Enjoy your homemade Donuts.
